Hello from eastern Indiana. My brother-in-law recently sent me a picture of a large spider that he caught in southern Michigan. I told him that it was a type of wolf spider, but I am not absolutely sure. When the spider spread out its legs, it was about as large as the bottom of a peanut butter jar. Since wolf spiders are the biggest spiders that I have seen around here, my uneducated guess was that it was a wolf spider. The picture is kind of dark, but this spider had alternating dark reddish brown bands on its legs. The spider was absolutely beautiful, and my brother-in-law released it back into their woodpile after the pictures were taken. Could anyone give me any indication of what species this spider is? Thanks in advance for your time.
