I had pulled up at my neighbours driveway when this insect flew into his arm and then landed on my hand. Naturally I jumped a mile, dropping my motorcycle helmet over the beast - which we managed to catch.
It's roughly 2" long, 4 wings, yellow and black (yellow eyes & legs{v.long) with a short yellow 'stub' at the back of the abdomen and a 1" long stinger protrudung from the underside of its abdomen.
Pictures are avaliable to any who think they can help identify it [ask at m.harwood@tiscali.co.uk] - I live in Scotland & this bugger looks like a foreigner.
I've looked at most of the sites out there with no joy so any help would be appreciated.
