:yesterday, we found a 1 1/2" long bee type thing. somewhat aggressive, and not very loud. i've read other postings, but, this sounds different from others. it was during the day that it was found in her room, and there were no others. i have NEVER seen anything like it before. right now, it's caught in her window between the glass and screen, and when it's safe (it has 2 very large stingers ), we are going to take it to the science center and see if it can't be identified. also, this insect has a black face and black and yellow rings all the way down to it's stingers. if anybody has any info on this please feel free to e-mail or respond through this forum. we are very interested to know where this is native from and how the HECK it got here!
Whoa..two stingers? New to me. It may be some sort of Ichneumon wasp which look like they have more than one stinger due to a sheath that protects the ovidipositor. Most wasps stingers are not very noticeable so either you got something really cool or you have some Ichneumon or Horntail. Let me know if you can.
