:Yesterday 2-3 dozen paper wasps landed on the eave of our house. They have stayed there for two days now and look for all the world like a swarm of bees -- except they're paper wasps. They are much more agitated than the other paper wasps in the area (all of whom have nests) and seem a tad disorganized. Do paper wasps swarm? Could their nest have been damaged or destroyed? Could it be the drought? Any thoughts? Thanks --
I think the swarm you saw were actually species of Bembix wasps. They congregate much like your description. They act aggressive but rarley sting and most probably have dispersed by the time you read this. Polistes don't swarm as far as I know. Hope this helps.
