:I was at a party the other night, and I herd what I thought was a small bird hit the window. My friends and I went to check it out, and it was a huge 2.5" - 3" wasp. It looked like a yellow jacket queen, but I don't think they get that big. I live in Louisiana. Does anyone know what it was?

Sounds like the European Hornet (Vespa crabro). They fly at night and are established in Louisiana. Most insect books have pictures of them.
