Found near Santa Cruz CA - what is it?

I was hoping someone in this form could help me ID these critters.

I have found these a couple times now on my property in Felton CA which is near Santa Cruz. I think they are tarantulas. Are they? What type?

They are almost uniform in color dark tan / dirt brown with no real distiguishing markings. They are relatively hairless compared with other tarantulas I've seen. All the ones that I've found have been very aggressive. If crossed they rear up on their 6 rear legs, flash large fangs and lunge (amost jump) at their target.

Here's a top down photo of one I captured today for a while. I'll follow up with a couple of him being fiesty.
