Okay, so this is the story: About a month ago my North American stick eggs started to hatch. I had a little panic at first because at that point there was still several feet of snow on the ground and nothing to feed them but I had read somewhere that some species will eat lettuce and I have been rearing the little ones on Romaine with plenty of success. The nymphs include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd instars. Anyway, a few days ago one of them started convulsing for about ten minutes and then stopped. Now they all do this periodically. It seems as if they temporarily loose control of their legs. So far none have died from this, but one of my strongest lost a back leg. Is this some strange disease? I thought it might be nutritional since they are not eating bramble, but they were fine this whole time. I'm thinking it could be pesticides in the letuce and today have switched to organic, but if anyone has any information or suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!
