I went up to our local mountains with an arachnologist from the Nat. History Museum today. Armed with screen, shovel, and many collecting tubes, we sifted thru leaf litter under oak trees trying to find Apostenus and Zanomys Feminina. Did we get any? Won't know until they're scoped, with the exception of a fat filistatid which barely fit in the tube, most of these guys we collected were really tiny, under 3mm.
We hit several areas during the survey, and plan another one in a couple of weeks, hopefully with a few more people to help out. As we were leaving, I just HAD to turn over a big rock flake, and collected a gorgeous 4" centipede which is a beautiful aqua blue color. The bug man said these can get up to 9" in length, so I brought it home and named it 'Squiggles.' I'll try to get some decent pix, but it's a fast mover!
