I don't use kill jars hardly ever for butterflies and moths any more, as it takes so long to kill them, they usually beat their wings up pretty bad before they are dead. I usa a hypodermic syringe with a short needle and fill it with alcohol or ethyl acetate, only a few drops are needed, this is injected into the thorax, they are killed instantly.
