Curious Object in my Shed

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me. Having moved into a new house recently, I was
cleaning out the small shed at the bottom of the garden, the shed looks as if it
is less than 2 years old, and is 6ft wide 6ft high and 4ft wide.

Inside the shed hanging from the roof was a oblong spherical object which looked
like a chinese lantern, it was about 6/7 cm long and 3cm wide with a hole at the
bottom about 1.5 cm. It was the colour of pale brown paper and seemed very
tissue like.

Unfortunately in my eagerness to rid the shed of insects, cobwebs etc (mainly
for my partner) I was over enthusiastic with the blow torch and incinerated the
object without thinking first.

Could you please tell me what this was and what sort of insect created/lived in
it.
Please email any replies directly to the address below

Thanks
Bill
