Last fall, I had a mantis lay an agg case in the fabric of one of my butterfly nets. I was able to carefully tear it off from the fabric, and then I attached it to a small branch using a blob of beeswax. Just work it in your hand until it is soft and pliable. Then carefully press it into the backside of the ootheca. Then you can gently press the other side of the wax blob into and around the branch. The wax will keep the ootheca firmly in place.
