I break off the branch that had the pseudo's ootheca and place it upside down in between two objects (other branches, plants, etc)...this ensures that the nymphs will hatch out downward. I also had phyllocrania oothecas and I pinned them very carefully at the ends of the ootheca. I should think that you have some space to pin the ootheca, try angling the pin or use a very thin pin.
