Depends on how many you want to keep.
When my chinese mantid ootheca hatched earlier this year, I let them (about 200) run around for a few days in the same tank. I didnt have any food ready for them so after 2 or 3 days they started eating each other. Some of the weaker ones just die anyway.
After a week I then seperated about 20 out into individual containers. They all had fruitflies for food as well as the remaining ones in the hatching tank.
I now, about 2 months later, have 9 mantids left. They are doing ok apart from the odd one have a bad shed. Im hoping to at least get one good male and female out of the remaining ones.
