I am posting this in the fly forum because I do not see a forum that fits all insect types and I am perplexed by the below described egg clusters at my pond margin. I am a novice and have not a clue as to what I am looking at, however, I suspect it could be moth, butterfly, or dragonfly. I have a somewhat large manmade pond in the Seattle area. It is 2,300 gallons and 5' deep at its center. There are two eggs clusters attached to grasses that are growing in a water depth of about 2 inches. The egg clusters are approximately 6'' above water level. The clusters are salmon/peachy pink. Eggs are quite small; a bit larger than the size of the ball inside the writing end of a ball point pen. There are well over 100 eggs in each of the two clusters. The clusters are approximately 1/2-3/4" across and approximately 3-4" long. It may or may not be of consequence to mention I have Koi and a few snails living in the pond. There are also dragonfly larvae. I recently have seen red dragonflies flitting about the pond. These are new to my pond. The blue and green dragonflies have always been present; only the red is new to my pond. I have a neighbor who suggested these eggs may be frog or in the "frog family". Does anybody out there know what I may have hatching at my pond margin? Thank you for any input anyone may be able to provide to me via my e-mail address: chickadee-dee-dee@att.net
