Posted by Michael on June 25, 2002 at 09:19:05:
Mealworm population is not increasing.
Bedding: 80% Rolled Oats, 20% Wheat Germ.
Moisture: Potato peelings, and the occasional Bananna skin.
Artificial "log": Upsidedown egg carton, with holes cut into it.
Housing: 20L (4.4 Gallon) plastic container.
Population: 200 or so of the little fellas, usually includes 2-3 beetles and 5-10 pupae.
I find that 7-8 (out of 10) of the pupae's turn black and dry out. Few are being "eaten", most are showing no sign of damage, and even if placed in a seperate container on it's own, the same thing happens... why? is it too warm for them, or do they need some more moisture?
Any help would be appreciated.
