:Hi,
:I've just got my first centipede -'SHREDDER', I think it's a Scolopendra Subspinipes. It was listed as a Giant Vietnam Centipede.
< That is the "common name" generally used for Scolopendra Subspinipes. So it's a safe bet that's what you've got.>
I've got a couple of questions. How is the latin name pronounced? is it sub-spin-i-pes? or sub-spin-ipes?
< I'd go with the first choice, but unfortunantly I'm not sure.>
:Also, I fed it a couple of crickets when I got it, amd then it vanished?!?.I presume it dug into the substrate?,but how long do they go, without showing their face?
< These guys love to burrow. I've got two right now, and I hardly ever see either of them. Usually they only come out late at night.>
:I put another cricket in last night afer it 'went' and it seems to have gone, so it must have been eaten in the night.
< Almost certainly. Just make sure that's the case, as uneaten cricket remains stress out the centipede and can cause mold and/or mites to develope.>
